Tonight was PTA night. The administration tried a new format. I must admit that in the beginning I was hesitant. So far, parents could request to speak to a certain teacher during a PTA for ten minutes. In three years time I have had only one parent that wanted to talk to me (which I took as a positive sign). Tonight, all teachers had to come to school. Tables were set up in the gym, and parents could walk around freely and talk to the teachers that they wanted to talk to as much as they wanted.

For the first time, parents just stopped by to have a little chat and to see how their child was doing in my class. It suddenly struck me how much faith and trust parents put in the teachers that teach their children so many hours a day. I perceived their love and care for their son or daughter, and suddenly I felt the expectations that I have to live up to.

We teachers guard the most precious gems on earth. What a resonsibility… and what an honor!
