On teaching history and social sciences

Summer schedule July 22, 2007

Filed under: summer schedule — frumteacher @ 9:03 am

This morning it totally struck me. My last day of meetings at school was exactly three weeks ago. Although the whole week and a half after was taken by the schooltrip to Prague, I do realise that half of my summer vacation is gone. In a month from now I will be teaching again… :-(

How can I use the remaining summer weeks for everything I wanted to do this summer? I can’t believe half of it is gone and I still didn’t do any preparation for next year. I can’t even say that I wasted my time relaxing and sleeping in late, because I still feel stressed. So there we go:

THINGS I WANT TO DO THIS SUMMER

Relaxation and care of self

1. Sleep

2. Take long showers and pamper my skin

3. Buy new glasses

4. Buy new clothes in summer sales

5. Make bicycle trip if weather allows

6. Visit museum

7. Have a coffee with friends

8. Find a yoga class for next year

9. Relearn the art of origami

10. Knit

Home management

11. Get rid of old clothes

12. File pictures on laptop

13. Make photo album of Prague trip

14. Learn to work with Flylady system

Professional development

15. Pass my theory driving exam

16. Buy teachers’ diary

17. Make filing system for school papers

18. Make reading list on educational management

19. Make reading list on history and social science books

20. Read books on reading list!

21. Decide on next year’s curriculum for 8 classes (!)

22. Read blogs on education

On my blog I will keep track of the progress I have made so far.

Last week a friend from abroad visited us. It was great seeing him again after all those years and we did some nice sightseeing. I also visited the museum of Ancient African and American cultures, which was not what I expected from it, but which I enjoyed nontheless. It was relaxing to go out and stroll through the museum.

The goals for professional management are slowly being met. I bought a teachers’ diary. I made a list of 40 books that I want to read, and I had the first curriculum meeting with my collegue. Now I have to prioritize the reading list and be realistic about what I will be able to do this summer. Today I will start making a day-to-day schedule with hours for work and hours for relaxation. Sigh…
